Resource Centre > Glossary > Third Party Funding

Form of litigation funding which is becoming popular across Europe (it has for a long time been widely used in Germany): including the UK (see the recent report from the UK Civil Justice Council "Improved Access to Justice: Funding Options and Proportionate Costs", where the CJC endorses third party funding as a feasible option), and in Australia.

Third party funders treat litigation as an investment: they agree to fund a case in return for a share of the damages awarded.
